Our CEO and Leadership Team are responsible for leading our UK staff to deliver HI’s ambitious 2016-25 Strategy, drawing on their significant experience from multiple sectors.
George is responsible for Humanity & Inclusion in the UK, leading a dynamic team to deliver an ambitious UK strategy aligned with our vision and values.
Before joining HI, George spent thirteen years at Save the Children and five years at the International Rescue Committee, working on humanitarian response, programme quality, policy, advocacy and campaigns. He has worked in the Middle East, East Africa, India and the Balkans, and for many years led Save the Children’s humanitarian influencing work, including its global Stop the War on Children campaign.
George is also a trustee of Conciliation Resources, an international organisation that works to stop violent conflict and create more peaceful societies. He holds a Masters’ degree in Violence, Conflict and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
Mathieu is Chief Finance and Operating Officer for Humanity & Inclusion in the UK whilst also working for the HI Federal network in institutional funding. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in the humanitarian sector starting out in the field in Honduras.
After 14 years of experience in finance, and donor management in a variety of contexts, he joined the Institutional Funding division. Within the Humanity & Inclusion network he has also worked as Delegate Head of the Federal Secretariat coordinating the Network’s governance and was in charge of various transformation projects.
Mathieu joined HI UK’s team in October 2020 and his experience and knowledge will no doubt be invaluable going forward and in dealing with the challenges that lie ahead.
Polly joined Humanity & Inclusion UK as Head of Institutional Relations in April 2019, and leads institutional fundraising and influencing for the organisation. Before joining HI UK, Polly worked at a number of other international development and humanitarian agencies, including Action Against Hunger UK, WaterAid, Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), and Interact Worldwide.
Polly has lived and worked in Sierra Leone, in the Caribbean, and in South Africa, where she also worked with national NGO the Legal Resources Centre. She has a particular interest in supporting country offices and local partners in the global South to access greater funding, investment and influence and has worked on a wide range of issues from WASH, to nutrition, sexual and reproductive health and human rights.
Jane has been Head of Partnerships and Philanthropy since May 2016, with a remit to build a successful Major Giving Programme for Humanity & Inclusion UK – growing a sustainable stream of income from Major Donors, Trusts & Foundations and Corporates.
Jane has more than twenty years of fundraising experience in the charity sector, almost ten of which she spent at The Prince’s Trust. She has worked in a variety of fundraising roles, leading different teams in Corporate, Events and Individuals. As Head of Adventure Challenge at The Prince’s Trust Jane led and took part in fundraising challenges around the world – cycling, trekking, climbing, kayaking and rafting in Borneo, Costa Rica, the Sahara, the Himalayas and the Arctic - as well as running the New York and London marathons whilst working for her first charity, Save The Rhino.
In a 'previous life' Jane taught English overseas, travelling round the world and living in Spain. Jane also speaks Spanish, French, Italian to varying levels of ability. On top of the day job, Jane is qualified as a Yoga Teacher with a BWY Diploma, and is a Trustee for Neuroblastoma UK, a childhood cancer charity.
Vikki has been the Head of Individual Giving and Communication at Humanity & Inclusion UK for 2 years. Her role includes managing our 5 excellent team members who develop relationships with our existing donors and supporters, increasing the number of regular givers, and developing our external and internal communications. Since joining HI UK, she has worked with the team to improve our fundraising strategy, yielding excellent results whilst introducing new forms of fundraising.
Vikki has been working in the non-profit sector for 15 years. Initially agency side, Vikki had the pleasure to work with most of the worlds leading NGOs and provide consultation on phone, mail, digital and face-to-face fundraising in the UK, Europe and Australia. During this time Vikki co-founded and ran EverGiving, a digital fundraising platform which has revolutionised the sector.
We are led by a passionate, diverse and knowledgeable Board of Trustees, who have overall responsibility for the management and conduct of Humanity & Inclusion UK. They steer our CEO and Leadership Team to carry out the day to day activities of the organisation.
Peter is the BBC’s former Africa Bureau Chief. Peter has 35 years experience as a senior leader of the BBC’s International News team where he worked as Assignments Editor and Editor of the World Affairs Unit. Peter joined the Humanity & Inclusion UK board in 2017 and he is currently the Chair.
Peter is the Director of Peter Burdin Africa Solutions Ltd, which advises several leading organisations on the importance of Africa and helps to promote social entrepreneurs across the continent, including the black female empowerment organisation Siyakha Africa. He is also working with the pan-African education charity called ESSA and is teaching international solutions journalism and crisis management.
Peter is a Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan and a member the International Affairs organisation Chatham House and the Royal African society. He has won several Sony Awards for his news and documentary programmes, including coverage of South Africa’s first democratic elections and the funeral of Nelson Mandela.
Chloe is a solicitor and partner at CM Legal. Chloe has been a Trustee of Humanity & Inclusion UK since 2014 and she is currently the Vice-Chair.
Chloe’s previous roles include: member of the UK management board for Carnival UK, Trustee for the Finsbury Park Homeless Families project, Corporate Counsel of Carnival plc (formerly P&O Princess Cruises plc) - a FTSE 100/Nasdaq listed company, General Counsel of Carnival UK, Solicitor at Freehill Hollingdale & Page (Australia), and Solicitor at Norton Rose (Paris).
Vhernie is a Partner at PwC. She has worked at PwC since October 2000 in its External Audit practice and Capital Markets, Accounting Advisory and Structuring Services ("CMAS") practice. Vhernie has been a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of Humanity & Inclusion UK since May 2019 and is the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.
Prior to joining HI UK, Vhernie was a Finance and Audit Committee member of The Start Network from August 2015 until May 2019 when it successfully spun off from Save the Children UK and became an independent charity.
Vhernie is a former child refugee from Kadduvan, Sri Lanka and has volunteered with humanitarian charities since 2005. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has an MA in History from the University of Cambridge.
Benjamin is the founder and Chief Executive of PinkNews, the world’s most-read LGBT+ publisher.
Between 2006 and 2012, Benjamin combined running PinkNews with his role as Business and Technology Correspondent for Channel 4 News. Benjamin left Channel 4 in 2012 to concentrate on the global growth of PinkNews – now reaching almost 50m unique visitors every month. In 2018, PinkNews became the first-ever LGBT+ publisher on Snapchat Discover, and also received a €300,000 grant from Google’s Digital Newsroom Initiative Fund.
Benjamin also chaired Out4Marriage, the successful cross-party campaign for same-sex marriage in England and Wales. Benjamin has been a Trustee of Humanity & Inclusion UK since 2011.
Tom is currently the Deputy Director for Internal Audit at HMRC and Head of Internal Audit for the Valuation Office Agency. Prior to this role Tom was Deputy Head of Internal Audit at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Tom has been a Trustee of Humanity & Inclusion UK since March 2020 and sits on the Finance and Audit Committee.
Tom worked at the FCDO and one of its predecessor departments, DFID, from 2014 to 2021. Prior to that he was the Financial Controller of the Aga Khan Foundation (UK), an international NGO. He has a decade of experience in international development and brings expertise in risk management, finance, audit, and investigations to the Board. Tom also served as the UK representative on the Audit and Finance Committee of Gavi, the Vaccines Alliance, from 2018 to 2021.
Nicola has worked in the charity sector for more than 25 years in a wide range of communications and external relations roles, including leading the communications function at the Disasters Emergency Committee and CARE International UK, as well as at Samaritans and the Lullaby Trust. She is currently the Head of Communications at the Freedom Fund. Nicola joined Humanity & Inclusion UK in November 2021 and sits on the People Committee.
Nicola also previously worked at ActionAid and was a VSO volunteer in Nigeria. She has a Master’s degree in International Development and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Nana is currently an investment banker focussed on mergers and acquisitions at Jefferies in London. She is also the founder and co-chair of JEMS (Jefferies Ethnic Minority Society), a role which involves designing initiatives and spearheading discussions internally to attract diverse talent and foster racial/cultural inclusion at the firm. She has been a Trustee at HI UK since May 2020 and is the Trustees champion on Diversity & Inclusion, working closely with HIUK’s steering group to help them design their strategy. Nana previously worked for Deutsche Bank where she advised clients such as Scottish and Newcastle plc and Pernod Ricard on high profile mergers and acquisitions.
From 2009 to 2010, Nana worked as a volunteer with charities such as African Impact and Fadhili across Eastern and Southern Africa to design and deliver programmes targeted at youth education and creating awareness on HIV AIDS in that region. In 2010 - 2011, she was also a volunteer researcher for Save the Children in London.
Nana has a BSc degree in Accounting and Finance from the LSE and an Executive MBA from Columbia University.
Ayse has over 15 years of experience as a financial professional, having worked in investment banking in London and Frankfurt for international banks advising listed and private companies on various corporate finance and M&A projects. She now works as a Private Banker in the London office of a global bank.
Ayse has been involved with various charities in the past supporting their projects and fundraising activities. She has studied and worked in Germany, France and the UK. Ayse joined Humanity & Inclusion UK's Board in May 2020.
Ollie currently works for Michael Page, a recruitment company, focusing on getting people from diverse backgrounds into employment. Ollie joined Humanity & Inclusion in November 2021 and sits on the People Committee.
In 2012, Ollie was involved in a motorcycle accident, which left him paralysed from the chest down. From his first hand experience, he knows the importance of inclusive rehabilitation and passionately believes everyone should have access to it.
Ollie has experience of working in the charity sector, across service-delivery and fundraising, specialising in corporate fundraising. He has run two projects in India as a master trainer, with the aim of improving the conditions, knowledge and rights for people with disabilities.
